Mentorship Program

PMI Charleston, SC has the ability to provide valuable knowledge and networking to our students. One way to provide these benefits is through mentoring. The chapter can pair individuals who are new to project management with more seasoned professionals through a formal mentoring program offered by the chapter. 

Mentoring allows chapter volunteers to give back to the profession by directly interacting with people looking for support. The mentor can be a trusted advisor or coach to budding project managers to help them expand their project management knowledge and network, improve their project management skills, and grow in the profession.

Program Overview

PMI Charleston, SC Chapter’s Mentorship Program is aimed at students completing their studies or taking an internship. This program is offered twice a year (spring & fall semesters), however, the common process is highlighted below:

1. Application: Our chapter follows an application process for both mentors and mentees.

2. Selection: Once applications are received there is a selection process to approve both mentors and mentees.

3. Matching: Once the candidates have been selected there is a matching process to pair up the approved mentors and mentees.

4. Starting the Program: Our chapter has a formal kick-off for the mentoring process once the matching has been completed.

5. Running the Program: The programs run five months. Mentoring sessions are scheduled independently and can be conducted face-to-face or virtually. The frequency of mentor/mentee contact varies and can occur every week, once a month, etc., depending on the availability and interest of each mentor/mentee. (The minimum requirements in terms of mentor-mentee meetings during the formal stage of the relationship are 1 hour of contact per month.)

6. Closing the Program: Our chapter have a formal close-out process and a report is produced once the mentoring has concluded.

Fall Semester Schedule
