Q: How do I join PMI Charleston Chapter?

Q: Do I have to join PMI Global in order to be a PMI Charleston Chapter member?

A: Yes. You must be a member of both entities to be recognized by our systems as a member.

Q: How long does it take after I join through PMI Global before I am recognized as a chapter member of PMI Charleston?

A: PMI Global updates their chapter database every business day but it can take 3 to 5 business days before your affiliation with our chapter is available to us. NCPMI strives to sync with PMI Global at least twice per week. When our system recognizes you as a new member, you will receive an automated email with your credentials for logging in to our web site. After you receive your credentials, you will be eligible for member rates for all applicable events for as long as you remain a member in good standing.

Q: I'm a member of another chapter but I've just moved to the low country, can I transfer my affiliation?

A: If you are a PMI member in good standing, you can contact PMI's Customer Care group.  Chapter affiliations are handled at the global/national level.  For further information please follow this link, or contact: [email protected]

Q: Can I be affiliated with more than 1 PMI chapter?

A: Yes, you can be affiliated with more than 1 PMI chapter. Chapter affilations are managed through your PMI Global membership profile.

Q: How long is my chapter membership good for?

A: Membership is good for one (1) year and runs concurrently with your PMI Global membership. Members are responsible for maintaining their registration status via PMI Global.

Q: What industries are represented?

A: The chapter membership represents a wide variety of industries in the Tri-County area. Members work for the government (including government contractors), various branches of the military, the financial industry, private consulting services, the medical industry (including major area hospitals)

Q: Do I need my PMP to join the chapter?

A: PMP certification is not required to join PMI or the Charleston Chapter. The chapter does offer several resources for members and potential members interested in learning more about the certification such as information on preparatory classes and the exam.

Q: I am a new member to PMI, when will I hear about the chapter meetings and events?

A: It takes approximately 6 weeks for PMI to update chapter membership lists and publish the information. If you have joined PMI and the Charleston Chapter and would like to immediately begin benefiting from your membership please contact the VP of Member Services.

Q: What is the chapter’s annual membership cost?

A: The chapter’s annual membership cost is $25. This is in addition to the annual membership cost for our parent organization, PMI. Go to to register. Please see How to Join page for more information on memberships (chapter and global) as well as renewals.

Q: Can the chapter help me find a job?

A: PMI Charleston offers ample opportunities for those seeking new opportunities. Many members have found new career opportunities by networking at our various events. As of 2020, PMI Charleston launched the use of Slack for our member community.
