Reporting Professional Development Units (PDUs)

PMPs are required to attain 60 PDUs within a 3-year period. PDUs are classified in five categories, and PMI Members can track and record PDUs online. 

CAPMs are not required to attain any PDUs; however, CAPMs are only allowed to hold the CAPM designation for a maximum of 5 years. After 5 years, CAPMs must apply for PMP certification or retake the CAPM exam.

Attend Chapter Events and earn PDUs:

Each Monthly Meeting earns (1) Category A PDU. 

Additional PDU opportunities are:

  • Earn extra PDUs annually by becoming a Chapter Board Member. 

  • Volunteer for Trident United Way's Day of Caring Project (Volunteer Opportunities)

  • Speak at a Monthly Luncheon in an area of interest such as your area of expertise in project management.

  • Work as a practitioner in Project/Program Management.

How to claim your PDUs at for attendance at Chapter Monthly Luncheons:

Once you log in to the Continuing Certification Requirements System

  • Select the Report Professional Development Units link on the left

  • Choose category A as the PDU category and select “Find an Activity (Course or Event)", then click on NEXT.

  • At that point, you can either choose to put the Chapter identification number - C235 - in the Provider Number box, or you can put in the activity number listed from the Chapter's monthly email (such as C235-20130217 - (yyyy-mm-dd)) in the Activity Number box.

  • Click on the activity number link and then you can start the claim process. 

  • Follow the prompts to claim 1 PDU per Chapter luncheon attended.

NOTE: The previous categories for reporting PDUs (i.e. 1-5) have been changed to letters (i.e. A-E). Refer to the PMP Handbook (available at under the PDU Categories section for more information.

Question: How many PDUs must I obtain to remain a PMP?

Answer: In order to satisfy CCR program requirements and maintain an active certificate status, individuals who have attained the PMP credential must accrue and report a minimum of 60 professional development units (PDUs) during each 3-year CCR cycle, complete an Application for Certification Renewal and payment of the renewal fee, and reaffirm the Project Management Professional (PMP®) Code of Professional Conduct. Question: How can I get PDUs quickly?

Answer: Self study, attend Charleston Chapter annual event, attend monthly chapter meetings and presentations (Attending a 1 hour presentation earns 1 PDU), volunteer for Charleston Chapter activities
